California’s Food Production Investment Program (FPIP) Provides $57 Million to Food Processors to Cu

renewable energy sources

The recent passage of California’s Assembly Bill 109 will provide the food processing industry access to $57 million dollars of grant money for green energy to reduce plants greenhouse gas emissions (GHG). The funding is part of a statewide initiative that aims to increase renewable energy by reducing greenhouse gas emissions and in-turn to strengthen the economy and advance the positive growth that sustainable energy has on the environment. California Energy Commission Chair Robert B. Weisenmiller recently said that the new initiative support “not only helps the industry reduce operating costs and GHG emissions but it helps the industry remain competitive so jobs associated with food production remain in California.” The two-tier program will allow companies like Plug It In Solar, provide access to the food industry to alternative energy sources.

One of the largest users of energy in California

The California food processing industry is one of the largest users of energy in California using 7,000 kWh and 500 million therms in 2015 alone. Not only is the industry one of the largest users of energy it is also a large producer of GHG creating over 3.3 million metric tons of CO2 yearly. Despite President Trump’s backing out from the Paris accord, the state of California vowed to fulfill the U.S. commitment without Washington’s support. This initiative is just one step towards the 2025 goal. With the increase in competition from other states as well as other nations with alternative energy sources, it is important for California to support their industry and allow them the financial access to renewable resources.

Plug It In Solar is leading the way to reach this goal by providing access to consumers, large and small, to green energy technology. Based in one of the largest metropolitan hubs in the nation, located in Van Nuys of the greater Los Angeles area, Plug It In Solar provides solar energy solutions.
